If you turned to F17 with beta, firewalld will be enabled by default. 

It is pretty good to use, but more information on its usage really needs
to be put up on the wiki. I've only found a few pages[1][2], and they
aren't exhaustive enough. Since it's been pushed as a feature for F18, I
expect it to be more ready in 6 months time. 

On a related note, does anyone know how to make settings persistent over
reboots with firewalld?
