NFS not working

Some recent (Fedora 17) update seems to have changed NFS in a way that
it no longer works for me.

I find I have to do "modprobe nfs" after booting to get NFS(v4) mounting
to work at all; and even then, automounting (via autofs) doesn't appear
to work.

I see this message in /var/log/messages:

Apr 20 20:19:04 bolt kernel: [ 482.269622] NFS: v4 server rail does not accept raw uid/gids. Reenabling the idmapper.

rail is running Fedora 16.
