OTOH at least on one system I did run 'yum --distro-sync ...' moving from F14 to F16 and this worked just fine. If, in a cleanup phase, you will get stuck with higher versions of some packages than equivalents in F16 then run 'yum downgrade ....' with a list of such packages and that should take care of the issue. You can really use for that a list of "orphans". If something is a real orphan it will be skipped on a downgrade.
