While this fails: $ rpmdev-vercmp 4.1.0 4.1.0.rc1 4.1.0 < 4.1.0.rc1 It could be transformed into $ rpmdev-vercmp 4.1.0 4.1.0~rc1 4.1.0 > 4.1.0~rc1 Which works as expected.
