This is a case where rpath usage is acceptable, imo.

Only just a note that perl itself has rpath.
[tasaka1@localhost ~]$ objdump --headers --private-headers /usr/bin/perl | grep RPATH
RPATH /usr/lib/perl5/5.10.0/i386-linux-thread-multi/CORE
