The way I tend to look at it is that by having the information in sync with what Meson is actually looking for, it's less likely to fail in the future if things get reorganized. Yeah, I generally agree (I think most of my other packages now use pkgconfig) but here it's clunky. glib has a lot of .pc files so we need to check for 4 of those. pipewire has 2. but gobject-introspection-devel is still the package because WP checks for a binary, not the .pc file. So it's all a bit messy, IMO.
