After installing python-setuptools it works fine. asciinema itself doesn't use pkg_resources so the generated binary is the one that assumes setuptools available. I have used Fedora 19 Vagrant box for this which is a pretty slim VirtualBox image so it's possible that python installation on this image is not correct.
