Some time ago .def files were needed to generate library stubs for M$ Visual C
(using its link.exe or lib.exe+link.exe tools), so it's for use-case "pick
pre-built dependency libraries from Fedora and use M$VC". But maybe the
patching source code because of it is unnecessary complication. :-)
