It can be fixed with: - if (argc != 3) { + if (argc != 4) { fprintf(stderr, "usage: %s filesystem directory filename\n", argv[0]); That proves that hfs-bless and the rpm haven't been tested in a real system at all and doesn't leave much confidence in the stability of this approach.
