Adding the CFLAGS / CXXFLAGS as suggested above is successful in adding "-02 -g" to the g++ invocation, the same result as when I added ${RPM_OPT_FLAGS} directly to g++. The two rpmlint issues persist regardless though (will leave execstack in to take care the executable stack issue) but at least RPM_OPT_FLAGS is picked up.
