I agree with Paul on this.  You said that you were a programmer what did
you specialise in?  Developing applications in linux is like developing
applications in windows the only difference is its open source and
generally you have lots of people who comment on your code.

It really does depend on what you are chasing.  I have a few links as
well but really its dependant on what you want.
