Problem with a package

I'm packaging also the Widelands game; and I noticed it uses a weird filesystem structure, because it has no "make install" and the data files are on the subdirs on the same dir as the executable. How should I fix this? Put everything on /usr/bin or make a special folder for widelands on /usr/share and fix the .desktop file?
