As long as the player itself doesn't include any copyrighted ROM code,
and there's no patent problems with emulating the hardware, I would
think these would be okay. (They work the same way .sid does, a minimal
emulation of the platform, enough to play music.)

Obviously the files it plays can have copyright problems, but that
applies to most everything. (ogg, mp3, jpegs, web pages, pdfs...)

Is this based on adplug? Because that recently made it into Extras.
