I don't think there is, otherwise it would have been brought up already by the   
people knowing more than me. ;-)

Other ksmarttray packages are linked against smart-update, so doing what you  
suggest could cause conflicts. Obsoleting it in ksmarttray doesn't have that  
problem.

I think these are base tools which can be assumed to just be there.

That makes sense (if it isn't already being required - it's part of the gtk2 
package), it should be a Requires(post) though.
