The psychology has mostly been studied in cars, but shows up in other choices also. A person may hate every Ford part/car they have gotten for the last 4 years and say it day in and day out, but ask them to switch to a Chevy/Toyota/etc and the same reaction can occur.. In fact for some people the reaction will be more active during such conversations because their brain has mapped extra loyalty to the tool to deal with the fact the tool has been failing or not doing what they want. There are differences in software but the general human brain is the same.
