Both fail in the same way. When javac is invoked, it says: java: error while loading shared libraries: libjli.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory That library is at /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0.x86_64/jre/lib/amd64/jli/libjli.so on my x86_64 F9 machine, and is owned by the java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-0.16.b09.fc9.x86_64 package.
