Hmm,

We really should find a way to make this just work. How about adding a quirk list for this to hal and make hal set the powerdown timeout to like 5 minutes on affected laptops? So that people who don't have desktop sound effects enabled get the power managament advantages when not using sound, and those 2 do don't get the constant plopping (assuming they will do something causing set desktop sound effects atleast once every 5 minutes).
