Looking into /etc/hosts indeed shows something interesting - the file is
empty, but there is also /etc/hosts.bak which includes hostnames for
127.0.0.1 and ::1... Might this cause the strange behaviour?
For clarification are you using NetworkManager managed networking.. or the legacy 'network' service stack?
