A mouse-middle-key double-click opens a directory, and closes it's
parent.
Amazing what genius came up with that, try mouse middle button double
clicking with middle butten emulation, or with a slightly flaky
scrollwheel (iow most).
Middle-click was always a problem with Gnome. I filed this
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=437280
for metacity (see upstream bug), but these type of bugs are almost
systematically ignored.
+1 for changing the default (not because of middle click, but because
I'm convinced any semi-serious poll would show spatial mode to not be
popular at all).
