BIOS, hard drive and storage controller firmwares, CPU microcode etc
etc. Crippling, or making things useless, to prove a point seems to be
fashionable however.

I prefer my system to work, during which time I can still be pushing
for a free/open solution to happen in the end. Recognising that some
things can not be done over night is a bonus. As with most things in
life, a certain pragmatism is required.
