I think I've seen this on one of the heads on my dual head ATI
(proprietary driver) system.  It's the one hooked up to DVI.  I didn't
realize it was only the backlight and thought it was a sync problem or
something.  This is on F8.  Like Jesse, switch tty to vt-1 and back
fixes it.
