There are more difference between ubuntu and debian than between
rhel and centos (and even more so in centos5/RHEL5 since yum is
everywhere now).

They are more than largely compatible, they are almost similar. There
are differences, but not really related to the bits (not the same entity 
behind, different support and price, additional channels for RHEL...).
