Does a plugin for say totem rely on totem {ie cause it to be installed} ?

Or are the gstreamer plugins application agnostic ?

eg. Give me a type fred player -> gst-plugin-fred -> any gstreamer-capable app {which might be already installed}.

It should also list eg xmms-plugin-fred, which is another way to allow playback of the file type.
