Now if -lOpenThreads is really _all_ that's needed and on all platforms supported by upstream, then not using a configure check at all might work (still, it doesn't allow checking that the library is there and of the proper version, which pkgconfig allows), but requiring CFLAGS and LIBS to be passed to configure by hand is hardly a workable solution.
