Hmm. Have you tried these (from man neomagic), they helped a long time ago 
on a TP600 (non-X). This was FC2-3 era though ;) :

On some laptops using the 2160 chipset (MagicGraph 128XD) the following
options are needed to avoid a lock-up of the graphic engine:

           Option "XaaNoScanlineImageWriteRect"
           Option "XaaNoScanlineCPUToScreenColorExpandFill"
