I got the same type of resistance when I asked about gsl. <rant> Fedora seems sometime a schizophrenic distribution, sometimes some packages are updated to the last available stable version, sometimes not. Note that I am not talking about core packages like glibc, or gcc or others like it (dbus comes to mind). I understand the reasons for being conservative here. In the particular case of gsl the library is mature, the changes are mostly bugfixes and upstream recommends updating to last version.
