See, this is the kind of pragmatic approach I've been arguing for since
the beginning of this thread.

If you learn to respect the goals of the Fedora project without calling
its maintainers zealots, you'll find Fedora is quite open to pragmatic
decisions. This is evidenced by how many people are using it quite
productively.

Please don't think you need to swoop in to save Fedora from itself, it's
already happily accomplishing its objectives. For example, it is doing quite well without containing pointers to third party repositories in the core distribution. Don't expect that to change, the core will remain unblemished by proprietary products or reference links. If you can find
a way to work happily within those constraints, happy hunting.

Please speak for yourself and not on behalve of the entire Fedora Community. Which Sean are you anyway? I can't find much on you and Fedora, I otoh maintain many FE packages and use my full name.

I for one wouldn't mind pointers and even install help to (100% legally ok) proprietary software if this will significantly boost the end user experience.

With this said I do believe that we should be carefull with this, if there is a free tool which does 95% of the job, then we should not include links to proprietary alternatives. There is however no free tool which will allow people to access all those mp3 files from for example www.magnatune.com.

Hans
