The same amount of people would be playing those games if they were
coded in flash as well.  End users like that could give a flying leap
what code was used to produce their game.  Just as long as it is
extremely easy to get whatever is needed to play them.

What about multiplayer / 3d games (eg. www.runescape.com). You could argue that Java can do more than Flash. I don't think we can write off Java in the browser yet (not without seriously disappointing my sons anyway!).
