I did not think there would be a day fedora would shy away from the

Right now the problem is that software that actually makes use of gstreamer
0.10 seems to be hard to come by.
Software that has support for 0.10 atm:
- Flumotion (http://www.flumotion.net/)
- totem (configure option in CVS HEAD)
- jamboree (CVS HEAD)
- pitivi (CVS HEAD)
- Rhythmbox (CVS HEAD)
- Banshee (HEAD)
- bmpx (HEAD)
Given that 0.10 has been out for nine days at this point, that's a
pretty good start. releases of these are expected this month.
If people can get out stable releases this fast then that's a good reason
to include gstreamer 0.10 indeed. My worry was that since it has only been
out for nine days as you said and there are virtually no released
applications yet there is very little real-world data out there about the
stability of gst 0.10.
After giving up on Banshee I tried
Rhythmbox HEAD which kinda works but not really. Playing a file doesn't
work right away and I have to give the seekbar a little nudge to make it
start playing.
Does this happen always ? Every type of file ? More info would help.
Yes, it happens always and with every file. Well, more info about what info
you need would help too. :) (see below)
Unfortunately that's actually more than I get out of
Rhythmbox with gstreamer 0.8 (see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=174917 ).
Hm, two things:
a) a bug report on rhythmbox is probably better put into rhythmbox's
bugzilla.
I was mostly filed this bug for completeness sake and since I didn't get
any sort of reply on it anyway I'm now more concerned with gst 0.10.
b) the bug report is short on details. What version of GStreamer ? What
types of files ? What audio sink ? What CPU ? ...
I filed it against Fedora-devel so the versions of the various bits are
whatever is currently in rawhide. (top to bottom: rhythmbox-0.9.2-3.1,
gstreamer-0.8.11-2.1, alsa-lib-1.0.10rf-3, kernel-2.6.14-1.1752_FC5)
It happens with all types of files and the audio sink is the, well, default
one (my guess is alsa). Rhythmbox does not have any option to specify the
sink. The CPU is an AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ although I'm not sure what the
CPU would have to do with it. The audio card is an M-Audio Audiophile 2496
using the ice1712 driver.

Dennis
