It seems like istanbul is doing a full screengrab for each frame. That
can never compete with an XDamage based system like e.g. the gnome vnc
server that I use with vnc2swf.
Perhaps not but it would probably suffice to do a screencast. One quick
grab I did a few months back on a rawhide system. Not a comprehensive
test by any means but it did work well except for being serious
demanding on resources.

The developer might be open to suggestions on use a different efficient
