I wasn't aware of the%java_arches macro. I've used it to avoid building the documentation for PAM in i686 and it builds correctly. Thank you for your help!
That is the right approach. Koji allowed a noarch subpackage to be
created only on some architectures. So just don't build the pam-doc
subpackage on i686.
