I've got the same problem with a Dell laptop that uses the ICH6M
chipset.  The HDD drive switched from being /dev/sda to being /dev/hda
and now performance sucks.

I've filed a bug report at: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=166053

I'd love to know where your bug report is and have you CC in on mine
with a comment.
