No, or only if we murder it. We have to adjust to a changing world. The first packages which were affected, was the Java stack. Our packaging ruleset fits less and less to the evolution in the development of (Linux) software.

We need to adapt it without giving up the basic principles (such as safety, freedom, reliability, etc). There are already a lot of suggestions for this. At that time, in connection with the Java stack, Fesco resp. the community was not (yet) ready. If now the damage is getting bigger and bigger, maybe that will change.

We should not spoil a constructive adjustment process with speculation.

No need to overreact. As you wrote, we „have been using it for years“, and for good reason.
