Why is a Flatpak a better choice for LibreOffice?

There are a lot of ways to answer this, but from any upstream the advantage
of Flatpak is that it means package once and then deploy everywhere. So it
saves them work.
From a Fedora perspective there is of course nobody telling anyone to not
maintain LibreOffice as RPMS or as a Fedora flatpak going forward, but even
if nobody does we have a good option available in the Flathub package,
especially with the Flathub package not being verified as the official
package of upstream LibreOffice.
Having things as Flatpaks is also of value for us to enable long term
efforts such as Fedora Silverblue.
A while ago, I send a similar announcement to this list regarding
Bottles [1]. Upstream solely wants to focus on their Flatpak package and
actively discourages packagers to package Bottles natively for several
distributions.
They even go as far as not accepting bug reports unless the bug is
reproducible in the official Flatpak package.
The discussion that followed offered some arguments for preferring
native RPM packages over Flatpak packages. I'm not going to re-iterate
these. They can be looked up in the archive [1].
However, it surprises me that for a package, that is part of the
deliverables of Fedora releases, no coordination effort was made to
transition the package from Red Hat maintenance to Fedora maintenance. I
would even go as far as that this should have been submitted as a change
proposal, seeing that the package is in every (live) ISO Fedora ships.
Instead the package is being dropped like a hot potato, without even the
courtesy of an announcement beforehand [2].

[2] not strictly required, but customary
PS: For anyone wondering what happened to Bottles, we managed to package
all missing dependencies and update Bottles to the latest release,
keeping it available as RPM package.
