Interesting. Can you pin down from you analysis where the difference comes from, especially in user-space? I'm asking for a friend :-)

Just a note: GDM gets shut down after a timeout. So the stats might differ whether you collect them directly after login or a short while afterwards. Something to be aware of.
 
... the point being: Do upgrades profit as well, or should we review systemd services at boot which might remain from F37 after upgrade for new defaults?

If there are really some memory improvements in GNOME 44, it will affect upgrades as well, of course. At this moment I'm a bit skeptical about the presented numbers, though.
