Canceling the vote and requiring that the Change Policy be followed would mean that the change needs to be announced on the mailing list now and that a FESCo ticket may only be filed no earlier than 7 days from now, i.e., 2023-01-16. So, it could be voted no earlier than the 2023-01-17 FESCo meeting. That is right before the mass rebuild, hence this Change must be pushed back to Fedora 39 at the earliest. So from a practical standpoint, even if the outcome of the vote were not to change, it would save Fedora 38 from being pessimized by this change.
But I would hope that the discussion could actually convince those FESCo members that have switched to voting +1 due to the (IMHO unfair) comparison with the _FORTIFY_SOURCE=3 change to switch back.
