I think a better case for the command line has been made at http://www.linuxcommand.org/learning_the_shell.php and the "CLI Magic" series by Joe Barr. Hiding the command line, one of the strongest features of UNIX-like operating systems, reveals true crack-pot, at least. Having an easy access to a terminal emulator by clicking in the root window shouldn't be discouraged.
