FWIW 'less' clears the screen so I sometimes use 'more' when I want some text (e.g. a tutorial example from a man page) to remain visible on the screen after I quit reading the man page.

OTOH, you can get the non-clearing behavior by doing 'less -X', so maybe

alias more='less -X'

is a workaround.
