Especially nowadays where offline > updates are the default. Quite often. In the abrt reports I get it seems to be some minority, but not particularly rare. Even with offline updates programs crash when called from scriptlets, or when started before the upgrade and left running. (And obviously offline updates are recommended, but certainly not universal.)
