You might want to take a look at openSUSE's maven package:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/Java:packages/maven

It builds itself using ant and not using maven. You'll probably
recognize a good chunk of the spec, because it originally came from
Fedora (I'm also pretty certain that Fridrich, the package maintainer,
would not object to a cross distribution collaboration).
