The change to partitioning occurred in November of 2018 iirc, so it's
over 1.5 years

Oh yeah, it was a nightmare. If you plan on using ancient Kernels, you
will not have a particularly great time with certain btrfs features
either. The initial switch happened in 2014, and at the time, and the
lack of confidence showed itself through the choice of secondary
filesystem for /home. However, the reputation has been more problematic
than the filesystem I feel like, since every single problem with the low
level stuff was attributed to btrfs for so many years now
