It's already shipped in the codeready-builder-for-rhel-8-x86_64-rpms repo on RHEL 8, and PowerTools on CentOS.

To clarify this point.

Because the package is in those two repositories, it is not possible to put into EPEL-8. The problem as I understand it is that those versions are 'old' and people want a newer version. Getting newer versions are not possible without updating other packages which also are shipped in EL8 in different places. I think the 'fix' to this seems to be a module which replaces all the packages so the maintainer is actually looking for people to do a bunch more than just build for EPEL.
