What happens when you try this?

%setup -q -n pdf-stapler

Do not append anything after pdf-stapler

as you said the directory name does not have the version in it. :-)

I tried:

%setup -q -n  stapler-%{commit}

error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.dbb8Yr (%install)
