This is a concern because it means that it's possible to ship a release with a
broken installer image.

No, this doesn't mean it'd be possible to ship a release with broken installer image. Just that it wouldn't need to work from CD/DVD doesn't make it broken.
 

The GNOME Spin has always gotten preferential treatment, and I don't see that
changing. That is a discussion for another thread, but it's definitely an
issue.
 
Similarly like others said for optical media testing, if you think it's an issue, you're (or anybody else) more than welcome to help with validation testing of other spins.
