I've never seen disk > encryption on a Mac. On macOS, when full disk encryption is active, there is a different boot-time login screen. The process is described here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204837 I've just checked, and the machine shuts down after a short while (about 3 minutes) when on battery power. Did not try on main power, but I doubt it's different.
