I've been looking into gradle for the Stewardship SIG, but things don't look good. - The current version of gradle in rawhide and fedora 30 FTBFS because it cannot build itself. - The fedora package is 23 (!) stable releases behind the latest upstream. - It doesn't even install on 32bit architectures, because eclipse-jgit dropped support for these. gradle itself is actually only used for building a very small percentage of Java packages, the majority is built with maven or ant. This is why we've been discussing if we should drop gradle from the SIG packages (or altogether) -- because we simply don't have the manpower and know-how to get it into shape again. Additionally, tt's already not supported by the javapackages-tools-201901 module anymore, where support for gradle builds was disabled in all relevant packages.
