bash behaviour has changed [1] over time --- /bin/sh is fixed 
in behaviour

It is pretty clear that feaping creaturitis is in play with 
the bash developer -- an addition (recently) of an inbuilt 
'seq' primitive was a surprise to me; lots of 'undocumented' 
behaviours discussed, and some 'promoted' to being documented.  
May one rely on undocumented behaviours?
