Out of curiosity, do you know if that's hidpi-style 'scale everything' scaling, or is it just font size scaling? I read somewhere that Apple came up with a trick for doing 1.5x hidpi scaling - they just scale everything 3x in software then tell the GPU to scale it back down by 2x on output. Which is a neat wheeze.
