Yum doesn't have a good front end ?  What would be quicker - add a
quality front end to yum or add multilib to apt/synaptic ... I bet I
know ;-)

Isn't this just a packaging niceness, divide packages into arch and
noarch halves and the problem goes away - or am I being naive ?
