This is not something dnf can do anything about. Bash handles the globbing and passes the filenames to dnf. That's why you should quote them. Dnf doesn't know that you were using wildcards unless the glob doesn't match any filenames in which case bash will pass it on. Once "vmlinuz" is on the command line to dnf, it can't know that you didn't mean that to be a package name.
